Matthew Straeb Matthew Straeb

In September 2006, Matthew co-founded the Heart Gallery of Broward in response to the need he observed in his community for this service. During its short tenure, Heart Gallery of Broward has achieved an above-average success rate of 40 percent, having already helped place 70 children in loving, permanent homes. Recognizing the benefits a national network of Heart Galleries could have, he co-founded and organized the Heart Gallery of America in August 2008. As co-founder of the national organization, Matt leads this group to share resources and broaden the pool of families seeking to adopt. The Heart Gallery of America, comprised of 100 individual heart galleries, also launched, a comprehensive reference tool and informational index for prospective families. Recently, he founded the Florida Association of Heart Galleries to organize the 15 Florida Heart Galleries and advocate for adoption in the Florida State Capiton Region. In 2009, he received the Florida Governor's Points of Light Award.

Matthew is married and has two daughters. He graduated from Southern Methodist University with a BSEE. His business career focused on radio/TV and film technologies.

Christy Obie-Barrett Christy Obie-Barrett

Founder and Executive Director of the Oregon-based, 501 C-3 agency she started in 2006, A Family For Every Child / Heart Gallery. The Heart Gallery was AFFEC's first program. A Family For Every Child has now grown to include ten different programs intended to support foster children and find Forever Families Nationally. Programs range from foster parent support groups to an excellent mentor program to a family finding service that searches for relatives that may have cared for a child in the past. Christy's cause has now become the cause of 15 employees and close to 900 volunteers in the database.

Before AFFEC and as her motivation, Christy is the mother of 12 children, 9 of which are adopted.

We have found this program beneficial in finding families for our children. We ask that as you view the children, consider that they live in our communities. Respect their right to privacy, and be aware that they may attend school or church, or play at the local park with your children and relatives. The availability of their pictures leaves our children recognizable and vulnerable to negative attention. Although we strive to protect them, we need your help. Thank you!
